How do you find a lawyer who will actually help you?
Q.How do you find a lawyer who will actually help you? I have had 2 lawyers so far who only made my situation worse. One was recommended by a friend, the other by one of those find-a-lawyer call lines. How can you be sure your lawyer is working for you, not against you? I live in a small town and get the feeling they are all friends.
A.The best legal advice I ever got was ,"If you need a lawyer, contact your local bar association. Depending upon the type of law involved, there are various committees made up of the members who keep each other up to date on various aspects of, for example, criminal law, real estate, tax, medical malpractice, etc. Call your local bar association and ask for the chairperson of the appropriate committee. It's the best way to get someone who is very competent in the area of legal practice without paying an arm and a leg.. good luck! As far as them "knowing each other", that's more than likely the case. However, for them to violate the confidentiality of either a client or a potential client is a very serious breach of professional ethics. Any ethical lawyer(the vast majority are, 99.9%++) will, once he or she has agreed to take your case, will work for you...
