Find Criminal Lawyer
Q.What is a good way to find a good criminal lawyer for a misdeamnor in petty theft? We called the Santa Clara County lawyer referral number and they referred only one lawyer who had about 5 years of experience which appeared to be random. What about going through the yellow pages or calling the state bar number? Any other ways you'd recommend?
A.The best way to find a good lawyer is through personal references. Ask friends or acquaintances who they'd recommend. Ask any lawyers you know, if they don't practice criminal law themselves. And, as another person has already responded, do speak with them in person and make sure you feel comfortable with them. Comfort-level criteria should include: does the lawyer listen to you well? does s/he answer your questions? does s/he give you straight answers? (although no lawyer can offer you a concrete result to your case, they can tell you what the possible outcomes are for your situation) does s/he provide you with a clear and definite fee amount and/or structure for determining the fee?
