Q.A friend of mine had a car accident around two weeks ago. She was driving when a taxi hit her car from behind and pushed her car into another lane where she got hit by a city bus again. The taxi driver got a citation...Now she wants to find a lawyer to help her deal with personal injuries and property damage...We heard some lawyers would accept this kind of simple case for charge of only 20 to 25 persent of the personal injury compensation. Does anybody know where we can find a lawyer like that?
A.I practice law in Utah but I would advise obtaining a lawyer in the state in which the accident occurred. You might be able to call the bar referral service in your state. Almost all lawyers would probably require a percentage of the settlement for their services. This percentage usually runs between 25 and 40%. It is negotiable and don't be afraid to ask for a lower percentage. If you are looking for a lawyer for a particular type of case, a good place to start is the State Bar of Arizona. State bar organizations typically have referral services which will point you in the right direction. So, here's what you do. Call information (555-1212) and ask for the state bar office in Arizona's capitol city (I'm poor with geography. Thus, I'm not sure if the capitol of Arizona is Tempe or Phoenix or Scottsdale...). Then call the state bar and ask for their referral service. What might happen is they will refer you to your local county bar organization, which is probobly large enough to have its own referral service. The person will ask you what type of a case you have, and you can respond, "plaintiff's personal injury". They will then give you the name of a local lawyer.
