Family Lawyer SydneyQ.there is *some* offensive material on the Internet, no one can deny. Most people are aware of Ernst Zundel's Web site and the proposed neo-Nazi usenet group as well as other material documented by Ken McVay. But the reality is that the amount of offensive material is quite small. This fact is especially impressive given the huge numbers of people who use the Internet (estimated now if I am correct at over 40 million) and its trans-national structure making it essentially impossible to regulate. And it is a testimony to the good character of almost all Internet users that the amount of racist, anti-Semitic and otherwise offensive material has remained so small. I feel that this issue is an important one. We are living in an age when cynicism about human nature is rampant and there are re-newed appeals for all kinds of controls and censorship -- the v-chip is a good example. The generally good behaviour that most people maintain on the Internet offers a an important piece of evidence against all the cynicism. It is unfortunate that CTV news and B'nai Brith had to make such a negative report. What's your opinion??? A.Antisemitism is a rallying point for many of B'nei B'rith's members and their efforts in combatting it are important. However I agree that we need to let the Jewish world know more about the positive effect of the Jewish presence on the internet. I recently received a request for help from a human rights worker (non-Jewish) in the Netherlands. He wanted to assist a Jewish family from Uzbekistan to obtain refugee status in The Hague. We were able to put him in contact with UCSJ (The Union of Councils for Soviet Jews) and within a very short space of time they had provided the family with a lawyer. This is just one of the many good news items from my own experience. The internet is a wonderful tool for Jewish education and the promotion of Jewish values. What we need is more support from organisations such as B'nai B'rith to increase Jewish participation. Other Questions : Florida Durable Power Of AttorneyMy Dad has moderate to severe AD.
