Family Court Lawyer

Q.Anyone going through the slow as "mollasses" Legal Aid/Family Court system? Do Dads have any rights at all? It doesn't seem that way from what I've heard, & seen first hand! E-Mail me if you can help me, as Legal Aid is "asleep at the wheel", & useless! A little boys future, & maybe wellbeing may be at stake! This boys Mom has gone too far, & he's not being properly nurtured! Can anyone give me some advice???

A.Legal Aid Staff Solicitors are not restricted by the Courts or the Law Society from appearing on any criminal matter, regardless of how serious. They have represented on everything criminal from shoplifting to murder to multi-million dollar frauds. [In Criminal Law, in fact, the Legal Aid Act restricts Certificates for Summary Procedure - less serious - matters except in specific circumstances.] They represent on every issue in Family Law. They represent in Immigration matters, Social Assistance appeals, Workers' Compensation appeals, EI appeals, and more. They appear in all levels of Court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. They appear before boards and tribunals. In a few short years they build up more trial experience than private lawyers with many years before the Bar. They are fully qualified. In fact, in the past 5 years, three have been appointed as Provincial Court Judges after completing a rigourous interviewing and vetting process by the Judicial Council. I indicated Legal Aid do a piss poor job defending the clients. They are getting paid by the government win or lose and just don't give a damn. As well, they are nowhere qualified to defend many of the cases they are challenged with. For those financially able, it would be more wise to get what I called a "real" lawyer, if you want justice to prevale. For God's sake, some of these "real" lawyer's get criminal's off the hook. Anyways, at the time of the post, you and others kinda felt lawyer aid lawyers were equally qualified and would do great job defending you. I see you have a difference of opinion, now that you experience legal aid first hand.
