Dui Lawyer InQ.I made the unfortunate mistake of driving home from the bar (only a few blocks) the other night and got arrested for DUI. I just moved to Georgia (Atlanta). I need advice in finding a good lawyer that will inform me of my options without pressuring me into any particular course of action. I am also interested in others' experiences with this type of offense. This is my first offense for anything, but I understand that Georgia is very strict in these matters. A.Your best bet is going to be to talk on a reasonably confidential basis with a friend or acquaintance from your immediate neighborhood who might be able to make referral to a lawyer. There are a number of legal intricacies which you need to understand in making any kind of decision. The law is now pretty strict (and it should be), but it does not yet require execution of offenders. The consequences will be expensive, including fines, community service, loss of driving privilege, DUI school, loss of automobile insurance (requiring contracting with "high-risk" insurance companies). Some of these consequences will follow you for several years. I suffered these consequences several years ago, quit drinking, and paid my debt to society. As far as I'm concerned the law successfully served its purpose with me and I have no complaint about that. Atlanta polices are just like all the rest. They hang just outside the parking lot and grab everyone who leaves. Whatever you do, don't hire a young lawyer with no experience. They'll get you killed in Hysteria (DUI)Court. DUI courts are pure showtime and power pedaling so see if you can make a deal and not show up for the government oppression and the MADD crowd.
