Dual Power Of Attorney
Q.I did at least 20 autorotations today. Then I came home and typed out a durable power of attorney for my wife. I know I've gone over the edge now with this helicopter thing. I'm doing my last 3 hours in the next couple of days then I get he big BOOT! The solo endorsement. I'm going to walk in and plunk down money for 10 hours of block time and just go play by myself in a R-22 Beta-II. I'm going to hover around in the canyons I've hiked. I'm going to land on some mountains I've climbed. I'm going to skim the ground and land vertically anywhere I want. There's a goofy "SFAR" requirement of 20 hours of dual to solo a Robbie. Plus there's a goofy reg that even if you have 50,000 hours of X-country time logged, you have to do 3 hours of dual X-C with a CFI. Then there's this 3 hours of night dual too. So tomorrow, I'm killing all birds with one stone. I have 17 hours of dual in the R-22 today (I just started up again since May because I don't fly in the summer heat). Tomorrow night I'm going to do 3 hours of night X-C dual. That kills all requirements for the rotor rating. any of you other guys will know how to maximize the system if you ever get up against it like this.
A.Hope your first paragraph is only indicative of your excitement and not your true intentions on a first solo! There are valid reasons why SFAR 73 was promulgated. Walk before you run ie master the machine before heading for those mountains and canyons. And for heaven sakes don't go skimming the ground; we've read about enough pilots meeting a bad end via wire strikes. I don't think that you should use the Robinson for those relief missions you were talking about recently.... Ain't it summer down there? If there's a need for a Cub, Super Cub, Helio, Maule, or Fieseler Storch pilot on those rescue thingies, either I'm qualified or will get qualified in a damn hurry and volunteer.
