Drunk Driving Laws?
Q.Isnt this a contradiction. We have laws against drinking and driving. Drinking makes you lose your judgement. Losing your judgement means you think you arent drunk. If you think you aren't drunk you will drive. Wouldnt it be better to ban all public drinking? (to save children's lives that are killed in burning car wrecks on the highway.. and my own life too!!)
A.Prohibition is the only way we can stop drinking and driving. You are completely right, we punish people who legally ingest a substance that impairs their judgment and then we put them in jail when they make bad decisions. Mothers against drunk driving should be trying to ban alcohol! I believe they tried that in the 20's...it didn't work.The bigger question is why can man not handle the responsibility that comes with freedom and making good choices. It is our God given right to be safe as WE practice our own freedoms. Maybe actual sentencing of the laws we already have on the books would be a better deterrent. The problem is, the jails are overcrowded with other drug related offenses and other dangerous criminals.The next question you have to ask, is WHY do we have such a HUGE criminal problem. We are the most imprisoned population on the planet (In the US). Do we have too many laws as it is? Is the prison population a problem? Or is it just a symptom of much bigger problems we have. There are more laws passed daily that will imprison more and more. Read section 802 of the patriot act. The reason people drink is because they need an escape. The reason they need an escape is because the world is turning to shite around them. Fix the problems, not the symptoms.
