Dmv Power Of Attorney
Q.I did call the VA Consumer Affairs Office in Richmond this morning, and was told that this was not a law. I didn't have a chance to try the Attorney General's or other offices today, though. We also faxed a letter to the General Manager at the dealer this morning, describing the "event". Don't know if anything'll come of that, but I felt that, if he didn't already know it, I would at least point out that it's not a good thing for his employees to outright lie (e.g., the requirement being a Virginia law) to prospective customers. Also BTW and FYI, from my personal perspective, this is not *just* plain paranoia
A.Just a quick question. When you did buy the car for cash, did you sign a "DMV power of attorney" paper allowing the DMV to change the title of the new car to you. I really questioned it. I signed it, even though the dealership said I didn't have to. It would only mean that I would have to go to the DMV and take care of all the paperwork. But the words Power of Attorney really scared me. Its this a one time deal and limited to just this transaction, or is this held at the DMV in my records forever, that they have Power of Attorney to assign my title to anyone at any time?? PS, I did pay cash and did sign the credit paper. I've waited to buy my new Camaro for four years and figure they can get the info easy enough from their "friends" at the DMV any time anyway....
