Q.My husband and I got married for several years. However, we don't love eachother now. So we want to stop with divorce. I am living in New York city. How do I file an uncontested divorce without lawyers (New York)? where to get the forms, explanation of the process, etc Any experiences or ideas for me???
A.First off please make sure that your soon to be ex-husband agrees to this divorce in all aspects you cant get an uncontested divorce if he doesn't agree and comply with every little thing.Second if your financially stable be ready to pay hefty court fees if not you can ask for a poor person order form and show that you cannot afford lawyers more less court fees and the judge will sign off on it it takes about a week or so. You can find those papers at your nearest county clerk office make sure to go to the county clerk in your borough all papers are free so dont waste time online paying. you can also get your uncontested divorce papers at the county clerk also also ask for a list of free lawyers in ny for divorces i tink they only take calls on wed in the morning and afternoon they have time slots. get like 2 packets because you may mess up and they dont take white out or scratched out errors. if your poor person order is approved then move on to getting an index number in the county clerks office if not approved be prepared to pay heavty fees. after geting your index number and fillinf out all papers corectly if they arent correct they will give you back your papers as many times as they please also the papers have to be in the order thy want they will give you a paper telling you what paper should be first second and so on have a friend or family member serve your ex husband and fill out the paper saying they served him and what he was wearing and how they served him face to face or by mail. whatever paper say notary public make sure you notarize them very important it may seem like a lot and it is but you can do it just follow the instructions in the packet and you should be fine
