Divorce Lawyer
Q.Taking money from families which are breaking up and who need that money for the kids...... Most divorces could be done without an attorney if the couples had half a brain.... most of them don't. Here's what you get for that $20,000 you pay your attorney: 1. A generic complaint made from a template and the particulars you put into it. Takes a paralegal about 90 minutes to get the story from you and draft the complaint. 2. A few meetings which cost a lot of money, don't accomplish anything, but make you feel like you're winning the unnecessary fight. 3. Hand-holding on the phone at $200 an hour. In a word, it's a RIPOFF, and only a step above the scam artists who prey on the elderly. Lawyers prey on your ignorance of the law and the time-pressure of divorce to EXTRACT large amounts of money out of you; once they get their retainer, they often forget you exist. What's your opinion???
A.Forget the lawyers who try to tell you how to find a "good" divorce lawyer; there aren't any. A good divorce lawyer would be teaching people how to do this themselves. Instead they feed like pirhanas on those who are most ignorant and vulnerable. Who needs that? If most legal clients knew how LITTLE their attorneys do for them, they'd be outraged, and they should be. It's truly scandalous. The worst part is that since financial disclosure is a part of divorce actions, they can figure out to the DOLLAR just how much money you can afford to spend on them, then they guess as to what you can borrow on top of it; the alternative is getting tripped up on technicalities in court and losing your shirt. Nice racket, isn't it?
