Divorce Lawyer New YorkQ.Being the best divorce lawyer in New York is like being the best devil in Hell." So says publisher Judith Regan, who knows a thing or two about New York divorces. After all, she has shelled out more than $1 million in the seven years it has taken her to settle her split from money manager Robert Kleinschmidt. Over the years, she says, she has come to believe that divorce law is a down-and-dirty business in which lawyers profit from "marital missteps," according to "Divorce, Incorporated," Michael Gross' penetrating cover story in tomorrow's New York magazine. Another high-profile ex-spouse, Patricia Duff, says, "Divorce law is not about justice or fairness or protecting anyone's rights or what's best for a child; it is big business." During her headline-grabbing three-year divorce from billionaire Ron Perelman, Duff ran through 20 lawyers, including Norman Sheresky, Robert Cohen, William Beslow, Eleanor Alter and Stanford Lotwin, who wound up firing Duff as his client, claiming that she was "ruining my health." Divorce law has exploded over the last few decades — 30 years ago, adultery was the only grounds for divorce, and the woman could normally expect nothing more than alimony and child support. Today, celebrity divorces like Duff-Perelman light up the gossip pages with litigation over marital assets, lifetime maintenance, even the value of a spouse's professional license. It's a nasty business that generates upward of $200 million a year. What's your opinion??? A.Indeed, New York's top divorce lawyers know that they could easily take advantage of their clients' vulnerability, especially when they're dealing with such big bucks as Perelman's or Donald Trump's. Lawsuits are about money. Normal lawsuits are about conflict and payback and "bull of the woods" stuff but first and foremost they are about money. The reality about divorce is that everyone suffers. Not just the husband and wife, but the kids and the parents and the friends. Divorce has a long reach into society as a whole. And the truth is, that behind all that money there is real pain. And sometimes lawyers get to tap into some really big money by applying salt to those emotional wounds. Other Questions : Find A Job As A LawyerCan an indian lawyer find a legal job in the USA?
