No attorney divorce?
Q.My wife and I separated about 2 months ago and we both agree that it is best for us to go ahead and proceed with the divorce. When we separated, we worked out all of the property, custody and support details. Neither one of us feel that we need an attorney b/c we don't feel like there is going to be any 'bad blood' with it. What are our options of filing for divorce without using an attorney? I am in Ohio, my wife contacted an attorney who said no attorney will represent us both b/c of the possible issues down the road.
A.I wrote up an agreement that my now ex-husband agreed to. I took it to my attorney and he did the rest. It cost us $500 for the divorce. We didn't have any property, but we had a child, and the agreement also stated what we had agreed upon for child support and alimony. It was so much easier doing an agreement, the attorney just incorporated our agreement into the wording on the divorce papers. I live in California, and while we went though an attorney, you really don't have to, here at least. There is also a place called "We the People", and they are not attorneys, and help you do the paperwork so nothing gets missed... and they are way cheaper than an attorney. I'm sure there is something similar in your state, maybe they have offices in other states as well. I would definitely get some kind of legal assistance to make sure all the t's are crossed and the i's are dotted.
