Criminal Tax Lawyer

Q.In 1982 a ladyI became convinced that there was no law that required any individual to apply for a SS#. She also became convinced that filing tax forms was voluntary. It is now 1997. She has not heard from the IRS for all those years. She does bussiness as an independant contractor under her name. If she files the forms this year what will be the ramifications and what would be a way back into the system without jail.

A.In a case like that, I *STRONGLY* recommend that she consult with a competent criminal tax attorney about her next move. She needs to be dealing with somebody that can invoke attorney client privilege to discuss this issue. If she discusses this issue with anyone else, she is taking a major risk that she shouldn't take. I suspect she will be able to get back into the system voluntarily without facing jail time, but she really needs a criminal tax attorney to walk her through this, given her background.
