Criminal Defense Lawyers AssociationQ.Too many lawyers are in the business just to win and earn money. They could give a damn about the truth. If that's upsetting, too bad. I think a guilty man got away with murder because of mistakes by an underpaid prosecutor's team, and a group of high dollar big name lawyers with no care for right or wrong, just win at all costs. I'm fully in agreement on the matter of the defence getting a fair amount of cash allocation, however it seems that a guilty criminal also needs a good attorney, to see that he is not abused or thrown to the wolves? And what constitutes a "criminal defense lawyer"? Someone who dabbles in it, or does it full time, or who is board certified? What percentage of a lawyers' practice has be defending suspects before he becomes a "criminal defense lawyer"? A.Sure somone who is guilty needs a good attorney. I said I could not work to let some one go free who I thought guilty, not that I couldn't do my best to get him or her the best situation a guilty party can expect. I could not, however, in all honesty stand before a jury and argue the innocence of someone I felt guilty of cold blooded murder. I would state that up front to any potential client. A while back, I taught a student accused of something he or she claimed and I was pretty sure he or she was incapable fo doing. I was sure because I knew this student from the time (I will use the indeterminate he, although it is no indication of the sex in this case) he entered school. I knew his life, and the child very well indeed. Being poor, this child had a court appointed attorney who attempted to get him to plea bargain. Since the child was a senior in high school, he would have plea bargained as an adult and had a criminal record which would have prevented him from ever doing what he wanted to do in life. Nothing would shake his resolve. He steadfastly chose to plea innocent although his lawyer advised him against it. In the end, the accuser, admitted to lying as her mother admitted to telling her to lie to protect a family member. The student was exonerated and all charges released. Along the way, the lawyer asked me If I felt the child innocent. You must have me confused with someone who cares what bar associations like. Talk about a public relations nightmare! Let a bar association try to explain what they have against criminal lawyers doing a required public service to the general public. Bear in mind that most of the public does not have a high view of lawyers to begin with, and if they think the lawyers' own association is bucking civic responsibility on the part of criminal defense lawyers, would you like to have someone thinking that on the jury of a criminal trial?
