Q.The case of Jose Padilla illustrates an aspect of the U.S. court system that I have never understood. "MIAMI (Reuters) - Jose Padilla, a U.S. citizen was convicted on Thursday on all three counts against him in a U.S. terrorism support trial. Jurors in Miami found him guilty of conspiracy to murder, kidnap and maim, conspiracy to provide material support for terrorism, and providing material support for terrorism." This muslim scum bag was found guilty on all counts. Today is August 16th but his sentencing is not until December 15th. Why the long delay? Why don't they just sentence the ass wipe immediately and get it over with? There are only so many verdicts the jury could reach and the judge had plenty of time to consider what he would do in each of them. Also, aren't there federal guidelines that narrow the possible sentences even further? It just seems silly to me to drag this out and cost tax payers more money. Even if this islamic shit hole's lawyers plan to appeal, that wouldn't stop the judge from immediately sentencing him. Seems like the requirement for a speedy trial would also require a speedy sentence if the person was found guilty.
A.We tortured him for 3 years before we even brought criminal charges. I don't think 4 months is a long delay. The speedy trial requirement is a right of the accused, not of the state, and it's one he's already been denied. He's an American citizen who lived in Chicago. Maybe we should make it a practice to regularly torture Americans who might have cousins overseas engaged in terrorist bombings? If we're going to start in Chicago I guess the Bridgeport neigborhood is as good a place as any to start.
