California Power Of Attorney Form
Q.Im in the insurance business, rather not use company name but lets just say I know where of I speak. Remember, everything is different state to state but in many places an insurance company may be formed as a "Mutual" company which means when you become insured with them you actually become a "member" or "stockholder" and the power of attourney is for the limited use of allowing them to have your vote at the stock holder's meeting as they really don't want you voting not to mention the kaos that would insue if they had to mail out proxy forms to every customer. With our mutual company you either sign away your right to vote on company issues and be a silent member or you don't get insured. I think that's pretty much standard. Its just a legal thing that if you want to be insured by them you have to join and letting everyone vote just wouldn't work. So you see the whole power of attourney thing was a waist of time if indeed this is the power of attourney you were asked to sign. That's the answer of power of attourney I think. What's your idea???
A.Until I left California for greener (well, colder anyhow) pastures, I was a member of the California State Automobile Association and every so often would receive voting papers. I never had to sign a power of attorney form and I was with CSAA for over 15 years. I mean what you say rings true, but I don't believe this power of attorney was for just voting right assignment. It could have included that, but I never bothered to read the fine print. Oh, and when the agent and I talked about this the first time and I balked he took some time to explain the need to me and I don't remember him ever mentioning voting. Of course I don't remember anything he said at this point because all I thinking at the time was no way was I going to sign a power of attorney form to buy insurance for my car.
