Best Criminal Lawyer
Q.I was a Scientologist many years ago and did some volunteer work for OSA, even though I was never actually on staff. However, during my years as an OSA volunteer, I committed what I now know to be serious crimes. As a clam, of course, I was convinced I was doing the right thing. Ive kept these things to myself for ten years or so but they are now weighing on my conscience. Im looking at statutes of limitations on some of the things I did, but I may go to the police regardless of the possible consequences for myself. Mostly Im concerned about retribution from Scientology. Im wondering if my having been a Scientologist would count as temporary insanity. Any advice
A.Please write it all up as an affidavit, as detailed as possible, and revised from time to time, and put it somewhere safe, in the custody of a lawyer or trusted individual, possibly copies in several places, with instructions to be sent to the appropriate authorities upon your death, disability or disappearance. Then discuss the matter with a criminal lawyer. If it is all statutorily- expired, or subjects you only to minor legal consequences, especially as a voluntary and willing confessor and witness, then probably the best thing to do would be to publish the affidavit, which would help push the authorities along and keep things honest there: "Sunlight is the best disinfectant." In particular, if it comes to that, please post it here, as text here or scans on alt.binaries.scientology. And I'm sure a dozen or two website owners who read and post here would be happy to web the thing.
