Q.I have an upcoming court date in houston with the attorney generals office?
A.They won't put you in jail, they will probably garnishee your wages to get the $800. The AG doesn't care if you go to jail or not! Especially in Texas!! My partner is an attorney and we hear from inmates who are still hit with letters from the AG while locked up. The best approach is to be upfront with them and explain your predicament. Ask if you can pay $25 a month, anything to get them off your back, then actually pay it. If you fail to give the state and/or your ex the money as ordered, you will go to jail. The money you fail to pay while incarcerated will build with interest. Hope this helps. As long as you give the AG "some" money you will keep them off your butt.
